The Power of Without
The City Science Summit is an annual gathering of the City Science Network and other thought leaders in the fields of urban science, planning, computer science, policy and decision making, social sciences and rapid urbanization. The event, held on October 7-9, 2020, was titled The Power of Without and focused on strategies for a future without top down and increasingly obsolete urban systems and with lightweight, distributed, autonomous systems.
For this summit, speakers from Latin America and across the globe addressed issues related to informality, segregation, policing, education, trust, data equity and more. Speakers included: Ricardo Villanueva, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, Kent Larson, Lord Norman Foster, Hashim Sarkis, Frida Escobedo, Dina Buchbinder, Eduardo Santana, Vinicius M. Netto, Eduardo López Moreno, Tenzin Priyadarshi, María Salguero, Rodrigo Canales, Mario Silva, Gabriela de la Torre, Sandy Pentland and Gabriela Bílá Advincula.
In addition, workshops ran from the evening of October 7 through October 9th evening. The event offered more than a dozen workshops presented by the City Science Network labs. Participating labs include: Shanghai, Taipei, Hamburg, Andorra, Toronto, Guadalajara, Helsinki and the MIT City Science group. Topics will include: lightweight mobility solutions, digital health, citizen enabled policy design, resilient communities and more.
